Xerox posts demos of new image analysis and classification tools

Xerox has posted online demos of some new image management software tools that the company's R&D lab is developing. The tools are presented as web applications, which can be run from your browser. They include:
Similar Image Search, which looks for images that are visually similar to a user-designated picture
Image Categorizer, which analyses an image to determine its content type — whether it's a portrait or a sunset photo, for example.
Aesthetic Image Search, which attempts to pick out the best images in a group of shots
A video that demonstrates some of these new tools is also available.
The web apps are hosted at Open Xerox, a site where Xerox distributes new and developing technologies for public demonstration and where it also publishes open-source applications and tools that it has developed and decided to make freely available.
