In two recent posts on her blog, Internet Revolution, J-School Evolution, Stony Brook University (New York, USA) journalism professor Barbara Selvin argued that all but the largest national newspapers should abandon the production of most, though not all, video content. She suggests that in many cases still image web galleries are a better choice. 

In the first post, Selvin cites statistics showing that less than 10% of unique visitors to most newspaper web sites watch streaming video content. 

Some commenters on Selvin's first post argued that these low viewership figures were largely a result of low quality and badly presented video. In her second post, Selvin takes that point and segues into a brief discussion of successful hyper-local online news sites run by former newspaper journalists who've taken their journalism training and re-deployed it in one-person publishing operations.
