| Microsoft releases Camera Codec Pack for Windows Vista, 7 (updated) |

Microsoft has announced the Camera Codec Pack for Windows 7 and Windows Vista (SP2). Available as a free download, the new software gives Windows Explorer and Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011 the ability to display RAW image files from more than 120 cameras.
Windows Live Photo Gallery can also convert RAW files to JPEG or JPEG-XR format.
Camera Codec Pack is available in both 32 bit and 64 bit variants,
and supports a long list of camera RAW files from Canon, Nikon, Sony,
Olympus, Pentax, Minolta, Epson and Panasonic, though a number of newer
cameras are missing. For example, not on the list of Canon cameras is
the EOS 60D, EOS Rebel T3i/600D and Powershot G12; missing for Nikon is
the D7000, D5100 and P7000.

Canon and Nikon distribute their own RAW format codecs for Windows as
well, ones that do include support for the newest models. They are
limited to 32-bit operating system versions, however, so the primary
advantage of Microsoft's Camera Codec Pack may be 64-bit compatibility.
