| Inventors of CCD honoured with Nobel Prize for Physics |

The inventors of the CCD imaging sensor, Willard S. Boyle and George E. Smith, have been given this year's Nobel Prize for Physics. The two share the 2009 award with Charles K. Kao, a pioneer in the development of fibre optics.
