| Apple today revealed that the next release of Aperture, v1.1, has slipped from its projected March 2006 ship date. In a press release announcing that the company is now shipping Final Cut Studio 5.1, Apple inserted a paragraph stating that Aperture 1.1 won't emerge until next month. |

| Capture One 3.7.4 release candidates posted |
| Phase One has posted public release candidate 1 of version 3.7.4 of all three editions of Capture One -- Pro, LE, and DB -- for both Windows and Mac. The Pro and LE iterations of Capture One v3.7.4 RC1 add support for the Canon EOS 30D and several Pentax models, as well as improved color profiles for the Nikon D200. The Pro and DB versions add support for the Phase One P 21 digital back and improved profiles for the P 45 and P 30 backs. The Mac editions are also now universal binaries. |

| Breeze Systems updates BreezeBrowser and PSRemote |
| Breeze Systems has updated its Windows-only image browser, BreezeBrowser Pro, to v1.4.2. Improvements include support for the Canon EOS 30D and improved color management when printing images. | Canon releases trio of camera firmware updates |
| Canon has released firmware updates for the EOS 5D, EOS-1D Mark II N and EOS 30D. Firmware v1.0.5 for the EOS 5D fixes a Picture Style bug and solves a compatibility problem between the camera, EF 85mm f1/.2L and Speedlite 580EX, while firmware v1.0.4 for the EOS-1D Mark II N also fixes a Picture Style bug plus it addresses an overexposure problem when Focusing Screen Ec-S is used. Firmware v1.0.4 for the EOS 30D is not new per se, but Canon has discovered that reinstalling this firmware version into the company's latest digital SLR can correct a Chinese language display problem in the menus. |

| David Guttenfelder of the Associated Press has been named Photojournalist of the Year (large markets) in the U.S. National Press Photographers Association's Best of Photojournalism contest for 2006. Josh Meltzer of the Roanoke Times (Virginia, USA) is the Photojournalist of the Year for smaller market publications. | Adobe Creative Suite 3 due in second quarter of 2007 |
| FORBES today has published an interview with Adobe CEO Bruce Chizen in which he notes that Creative Suite 3 (CS3) is to be introduced in the second quarter of 2007. | Trouble in Denmark: covering the cartoon story |
| In preparation for a future article about him, we've been talking regularly over the past couple of months with Jens Dresling, a staff photographer for the Danish daily newspaper, Politiken. During the time we've been chatting with him, of course, parts of the Muslim world have erupted in demonstrations and rioting sparked by cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad that were originally published by another Danish daily, Jyllands-Posten. We asked Dresling and his boss, Per Folkver, Politiken's Picture Editor-in-Chief, about covering this affair that has become "the biggest foreign policy challenge Denmark has faced since World War II," in the words of the country's Prime Minister. The result is a brief dispatch on their experiences. |
