Mic comparison worth a listen by digital SLR video shooters
Digital video equipment reseller DVEStore has recently posted one of the most useful comparisons of microphones we've seen to date, especially if you're like us and need to capture voice alongside a video-capable digital SLR in noisy surroundings. Called Recording Audio in Less Than Ideal Conditions, the seven minute video features DVEStore proprietor Guy Cochran demonstrating the differences between a sampling of shotgun, hypercardioid, lavalier, headworn and dynamic mics.

Canon releases firmware v2.0.7 for EOS 5D Mark II
Canon has released firmware v2.0.7 for the 5D Mark II. The bug fix update corrects three problems: abnormal aperture behaviour when shooting video, a metering error in manual exposure mode and an instance of an attached WFT-E4/E4A or WFT-E4 II/IIA not powering down automatically after completing an FTP transfer.

Hasselblad Phocus 2.5, a new version of the RAW conversion software that adds support for over 150 RAW formats from Canon, Nikon and others, is now available for download. Profoto BatPac portable power pack winging its way to stores in June
Profoto will ship in June a portable power source for studio flash, including the company's D1, ComPact and Acute2 series monolights and packs. Called the BatPac, it's comprised of a field-swappable 12V/17Ah sealed lead acid battery and pure sine wave inverter in a 24.7lb/1.2kg black nylon bag. It's capable of powering a single Profoto D1 500ws light for 600 full power pops with a recycle time of 1.6s.

XRite has announced i1Profiler, a new colour management package designed to generate profiles for monitors, RGB and CMYK printers, projectors and digital cameras. Adobe has made available for download a release candidate of Camera Raw 6.1, the next iteration of its RAW conversion plug-in for Photoshop CS5. Camera Raw 6.1 includes support for RAW files captured with Canon's EOS Rebel T2i/550D plus nine other models from Leaf, Olympus, Panasonic and more. It also adds the lens correction feature of Photoshop CS5 itself to the plug-in, fixes a bug and improves control and scrolling responsiveness.
