Benro introduces convertible Travel Angel tripod/monopod
Benro has introduced a compact, travel-friendly tripod that can be changed into a monopod without the use of tools. Called the Transfunctional Travel Angel, the convertible camera support comes in three different models and both aluminum and lighter carbon fibre versions. Each features a 180 degree foldup leg design, centre-column hook and soft case. onOne announces DSLR Camera Remote HD for iPad
onOne Software has announced DSLR Camera Remote HD, a version of its Canon/Nikon camera remote control and remote viewing app designed specifically for Apple's iPad. DSLR Camera Remote HD sports an interface suited to the iPad's 9.7 inch screen, incorporates gesture-based pan and zoom, the option to save to the iPad a lower-resolution photo plus the ability to start, stop and monitor video with certain video-capable digital SLRs. The next release for the iPhone and iPod touch, DSLR Camera Remote 1.4, will gain similar zoom and file saving capabilities, while support for video will come via an optional in-app purchase.

Paul C. Buff informs customers of planned revision to Einstein 640 v2 mount
Lighting maker Paul C. Buff has sent a message to Einstein 640 v2 customers today, informing them of a flaw in the monolight's mount mechanism that could result in accessories not being held securely. A replacement mechanism is being developed and will be retrofitted to existing Einstein 640 v2 units free of charge when the new mechanism is available. That's expected to be in December.

Boinx releases free PhotoBox photo viewing iPad app
PhotoBox, a new app for Apple's iPad from Boinx Software, is a browser that provides basic image analysis features missing from the native Photos app. With PhotoBox 1.0 you can view a RGB histogram and both underexposed and overexposed areas as well as zoom to 1:1 resolution, pan using a navigator-style interface and more. PhotoBox can also display photos on an external monitor, TV or projector.

Adobe has posted release candidates of Photoshop Lightroom 3.3 and Camera Raw 6.3, as well as Lens Profile Creator and Lens Profile Downloader Prelease 3. Lightroom and Camera Raw extend RAW conversion support to eight new camera models including the Canon PowerShot G12 and S95 plus the Nikon D3100, D7000 and P7000. A total of 21 new lens correction profiles for Canon and Nikon lenses are also included. Additionally, Lens Profile Creator is now joined by a companion utility called Lens Profile Downloader, which enables photographers to locate, download and rate profiles created by other photographers.

California-based computer repair outfit TechRestore has announced a matte screen replacement service for the 11 inch and 13 inch Apple MacBook Air models that were unveiled earlier this week. For US$249, owners of one of the new thin and light Apple laptops can have its glossy panel replaced with a matte-surface equivalent with the same specifications. The company also swaps the silver bezel for a custom black bezel of their own design.

Shipping underway of revised Paul C. Buff Einstein 640 monolight
The first units of a revised version of the Paul C. Buff Einstein 640 monolight have left the building. The Nashville, Tennessee-based lighting maker has today begun shipping the Einstein 640 v2, which corrects shortcomings in the original design including short range with PocketWizard wireless radio remotes, occasional excessive heat buildup when the modeling light is used and problems related to 220VAC operation. In addition, the front reflector mount has been reworked to provide smoother engaging and disengaging of the mechanism. It also puts a tighter grip on attached reflectors, has less wobble and a more polished appearance.

Photographer struck by errant Tiger Woods ball, gets picture to prove it
Photographer Mark Pain snared an unusual photo while covering golfer Tiger Woods at the 2010 Ryder Cup in Wales over the weekend. Pain, a staff shooter for The Mail on Sunday, found himself in the line of an errant Woods chip shot, and managed to capture a frame of the incoming ball before it struck his chest and bounced to the ground. Neither he nor his camera - a Nikon D3S with AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8G ED attached - were injured, while Woods and partner Steve Stricker went on to win against their European rivals.
