Lexar Pro CF Readers, LockTight CF cards nearing completion
At Photokina 2004, Lexar announced several products for the pro digital SLR shooter, including new CompactFlash card readers and two new series of CompactFlash cards: LockTight and ActiveMemory System. While Lexar hasn't yet shipped any of these pro-focused goodies unveiled in Germany in late September of last year, it's clear that the FireWire version of the Pro CompactFlash Reader and LockTight CompactFlash cards are darn close to heading out the door. Canon to release Digital Photo Professional 1.6.1 on March 28
Version 1.6.1 of Digital Photo Professional, Canon's flagship RAW file browsing and processing software, will be released as a free update later this month, says Chuck Westfall, Director of Media and Customer Relationship at Canon USA. The new release will incorporate functionality first introduced in 1.6, including a Stamp tool for cloning out dust spots, improved batch renaming and support for RAW files from the EOS Rebel XT/350D and D60. In addition, v1.6.1 will fix image processing and image display bugs found in v1.6 and earlier, including ones that impact multi-processor/hyperthreaded-processor PCs and multi-processor Macs. UPDATE, MARCH 22: The release date for Digital Photo Professional 1.6.1 has been changed from March 25 to March 28.

The 4MP D2Hs digital SLR, Nikon's follow-on to the D2H, will ship March 25, 2005 in the U.S., says Steve Heiner, Nikon USA's General Manager of Digital SLR Systems. Cameras should begin landing at dealers around that time, joining the D2X, which began to ship about a month earlier. Nikon UK issued a press release today indicating that the D2Hs will ship on March 25, 2005 in that country as well, suggesting that the camera is likely to be coming available worldwide by the end of this month.

At Photokina in the fall of last year, SanDisk announced a whack of new CompactFlash and Secure Digital (SD) cards, many of which were aimed at the digital SLR photographer, as well as quicker card readers meant to show off the speediness of Extreme III cards in particular. While most of the revamped Ultra II and new Extreme III cards they announced back in late September 2004 have been shipping for some time, a few stragglers have yet to emerge on store shelves, including the Ultra II 2GB SD card and faster USB 2.0 CompactFlash and 5-in-1 card readers. Information from SanDisk suggests the wait is just about over.
