We've updated our June 19th article analysing EOS-1D Mark III autofocus performance to include the contents of a letter that's apparently being distributed by Canon to dealers in the UK, outlining the company's plan to halt shipments of the camera and take back existing stock from retailer shelves in that country.

It's official: an EOS-1D Mark III autofocus fix is on the way
Beginning October 17 in the U.S. and presumably other regions as well, Canon began informing EOS-1D Mark III owners that a fix for the camera's AI Servo autofocus problems has been developed. Chuck Westfall, Canon USA's Director of Media and Customer Relationship, says that Canon USA staff at their factory service centres, call centre as well as pro market field representatives have been briefed on the fix and are able to speak about it to EOS-1D Mark III shooters. We spoke with Westfall this morning about what customers are being told regarding the fix. Here's what we've learned.

A look inside Nikon's Sendai digital SLR factory
In August 2007, Nikon invited technology journalists from around the globe - including us - to take part in the D3 and D300 launch announcements in Tokyo, as well as tour the company's Sendai, Japan manufacturing facility where the D3 is being built. While at Sendai Nikon, no pictures were allowed to be taken inside factory buildings, but Nikon has now supplied us with photos showing some of the manufacturing activities we saw when there, including the D3 being assembled.
